What are DNS Blacklists (DNSBL)?

DNS Blacklists (DNSBL, also called RBL — Realtime Blackhole Lists) are databases of IP addresses and domains known to send spam or malicious email. Mail servers query these lists to decide whether to accept, reject, or flag incoming email.

Common blacklists include Spamhaus (SBL, XBL, PBL), Barracuda, SpamCop, Surriel, and others. Being listed on any of them can seriously impact email deliverability.
