How DNS Speed Affects Your Browsing
Every time you visit a website, your computer performs a DNS lookup to translate the domain name into an IP address. A slow DNS resolver adds latency to every new connection. Switching to a faster DNS can noticeably improve your browsing experience.
DNS Resolvers Tested
- Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) — Privacy-focused, often the fastest globally
- Google (8.8.8.8) — The most popular public DNS, global anycast network
- Quad9 (9.9.9.9) — Security-focused, blocks known malicious domains
- OpenDNS (208.67.222.222) — Cisco-owned, with phishing protection and content filtering
- Comodo (8.26.56.26) — Security-focused with malware domain blocking
- Verisign (64.6.64.6) — Operates two root DNS servers, high reliability
- AdGuard (94.140.14.14) — Blocks ads and trackers at DNS level
How the Test Works
This tool sends DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) queries from your browser to each resolver's API endpoint. For each resolver, it performs multiple lookups against different domain names and measures the round-trip time. The results reflect the latency from your network to each DNS resolver — your results will differ from someone in another country.
